Next week—from July 25-27—the education data community will gather for the annual meeting of the NCES National Forum on Education Statistics and the 2018 NCES STATS-DC Data Conference in Washington, D.C.
And Ed-Fi will be there—joining the NCES Forum as an associate member! The Forum plays an important role in developing and recommending strategies for building education data systems that support local, state, and national efforts to improve education. We are excited to join these important discussions and help develop a shared vision of using data to improve student outcomes across the country.
Ed-Fi will also be front and center at the NCES-STATS Data Conference. Attendees will learn about the latest, most effective approaches for collecting, reporting, and using education data.
If you’re planning to attend, please stop by the Ed-Fi Community Demonstration Table and join the Ed-Fi Community as we present our expertise throughout the conference. We’ll be participating in seven sessions and a networking event.

Wednesday, July 25
Ed-Fi will be joined by community members Dean Folkers, Bob Swiggum, and SETDA Executive Director Tracy Weeks for a session titled “State Leadership for Interoperability: Leveraging Data for Academic Excellence.“
Together, we will present several case studies of interoperability, identifying successes and challenges to implementation.
For a bit of fun, and in an effort to continue to drive connection among our community members, we’ll be hosting a Community 365 Networking Event with seven of our partners on Wednesday, July 25 following the conference:
6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hay-Adams Hotel’s rooftop terrace. Our co-sponsors to this networking event are; Celt Corp., Certica Solutions, ESP Solutions Group, AEM, Learning Mate, UPD Consulting and Double Line Partners. We hope you’ll join us for an evening full of networking and thought-provoking conversation around data standards and so much more.

Thursday, July 26
We have four sessions on Thursday, starting first thing in the morning with “Beyond Messaging: Interoperability in Action,” featuring success stories from Michigan, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
In the afternoon, you’ll be able to join Rhode Island and the Data Quality Campaign to discuss “Powering Personalized Learning: From Vision to Implementation.“
Toward the end of the day, we’ll participate in two exciting sessions.
First up, “Identity: Let’s Secure and Operationalize That!” Join this session to explore best practices for deploying identity and access management capabilities in concert with an Ed-Fi ODS/API.
And finally, we round out the day with “Ed-Fi to CEDS: Plug and Play,” where we will have a live demonstration of the ETL process that will move data from the Ed-Fi ODS into the Generate.
Friday, July 27
We round out the conference with two final sessions.
“Leveling the Technology Playing Field: Ed-Fi and the Equity Case for Interoperability,“ which will explore the equity goals from three states—Michigan, Nebraska, and Wisconsin—and how they leverage Ed-Fi to help support those goals.
And finally, we will be joined by Duane Brown of CEDS, Brent Engelman of CCSSO, and Jill Aurand of Nebraska for “Follow the Money: Operationalizing the Finance Domain,“ a discussion on the ESSA financial transparency requirements and what our community is doing to support state implementation.
