The idea of community can take many different forms – from Ed-Fi-hosted events to technical Request-for-Comments, to the ongoing dialogue happening every day amongst our contributors. To this end, in late 2015 we formed a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) which at the time was a new concept for the Ed-Fi Community. The goal of the TAG was to create a group of committed leaders and technologists that would meet regularly to guide the Ed-Fi Technology Roadmap and further reinforce a continuous feedback loop between the roadmap and the larger Ed-Fi Community.
I’m happy to report that the first iteration of the TAG was successful in its mission and today we are embarking on the next evolution of our community efforts. Today we have formally launched an updated TAG Charter along with an application process for community members interested in serving the community in 2017 through participation in the TAG.
As before, the Ed-Fi TAG will be composed of technology experts representing diverse organizations who rely on the Ed-Fi standards and technology. Members will provide ongoing technical guidance and input on the roadmap and technical artifacts while informing decisions related to the Ed-Fi Data Standard and technology. Today’s updated TAG – including the open community application process — is a direct result of feedback from you, our community.

Our hope is that the formalized process will help facilitate organizations’ commitment to the Ed-Fi Standard and will benefit participants as they will have a powerful voice in the direction of the Ed-Fi Data Standard and related technology.
